Cleaning your vehicle interior gets easier with the right strategy

December 17, 2018 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

Do you struggle with cleaning your vehicle interior? You’re not alone. For most people, it’s no easy task to keep your looking tidy like the day you bought it.

But cleaning you space can be easy when you know the steps to take. Below are the best practices for meticulously cleaning every inch of your vehicle’s interior.

Remove debris

Start with the big stuff. Take out any clothing or unwanted items that have been lying around for far too long. Once you’re done, remove all floor mats and grab your vacuum. This is the best way to get rid of any build-up of dirt.

Wipe it down

For hard interior surfaces such as your dashboard and doors, a simple disinfecting wipe will do the trick. Cleaning the inside windows and windshield is as simple as using glass cleaner (consider auto glass cleaner if you want to keep a bottle handy in your vehicle). For your vehicle’s seats, use a microfiber cloth with soapy, hot water; scrub diligently until you remove the stains and eyesores from the seating. Have leather seats? A baby wipe will do the trick. You can also try vehicle care kits from GM Outlet Parts.

What about those areas that seem uncleanable?

Interior cleaning doesn’t seem too difficult when you’re cleaning the windshield or vacuuming the floors, but what about those areas that seem to double the amount of time it takes to clean? You know the areas we’re talking about: cup holders sticky with soda, seat belts, slits in the upholstery of the doors or inside seat pouches in the back of your vehicle. For all of these, traditional warm soapy water and a microfiber cloth will do the trick (though you need to dry seat belts immediately, as allowing them to soak in water can damage them). For those hard-to-reach areas, use a toothpick to pick out the grime before cleaning.

Get rid of the odors

Interior cleaning isn’t solely about making your vehicle look like new, it’s also about what you can’t see. We’re talking about those odors and scents that make you long for that new-car smell. Be sure the odor isn’t hiding somewhere in your automobile, such as in vents and under seats. Once you’re sure, apply odor remover in the vehicle. Place an air freshener in the vehicle to keep the positive smells coming.

Still have an odor? The answer may be under the hood…

Here’s something you may not have even thought about. You know those odors that seem to linger forever? That stench could be deriving from your vehicle’s air filter. Replace it regularly to ensure your vehicle is operating properly and smelling great!
