Washing Your Car – Things You’ve Missed

September 20, 2017 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

As we approach the cooler weather, it’s time we start thinking about washing our vehicles one last time. Rather than spend the money to go to a car washing place of business, why not get out the equipment you need to do it yourself? Washing your car on your own is a great way make sure your car is getting the cleaning it deserves as you can pay extra attention to every detail. It also acts as a great way for you to find thing that you need to buffer out, such as dents.

However, many people are not washing their cars properly. Whether their lathering technique is off, or they are missing spots – often times there are much better ways to get your car cleaned. That’s why today, GM Outlet Parts is giving you tips as to how you can get your car as clean and shiny as it was when you first bought it!

Inspect Your Vehicle

Before you even start cleaning your car, it’s a good idea to give your car a thorough inspection. This allows you to see which areas need the most work, as well as being able to see things you haven’t noticed before such as scratches and dents. By giving your car a thorough inspection, you will be able to create a game plan for the wash.

The reason you should do this before cleaning and not during is due to visibility. When you car is wet, you will have trouble seeing the minor details under the layer of water drops. This is further complicated if you lather the entire car in soap. Make sure you give it the once around before you get to work!

Use The Right Materials

There are far too many people out there who using materials that are not meant for your car when giving it a wash. Not only will this not get the job completely done, it can be damaging to the vehicle! There’s a reason why car washing soap exists – do not opt out for anything less!

It’s also important that you read the labels before using a product on your car. While one product works for a type of vehicle, it may not work for another. For example, different rims are made from different materials – while one product gets a chrome wheel nice and shiny, it may destroy your aluminum rims!

Polish, Polish and Polish!

You’ve washed your car thoroughly and carefully. Great job, it’s clean! However, while most people stop at this point you should take the extra step and polish your car! You’ve spent a ton of money on it, why not keep it in pristine condition? There a plenty of polishes that can be put on by hand, or you can opt for a dual-action polisher.

Lastly, Wax!

After spending so much time waxing and polishing your vehicle, why not give it the extra protection it needs? Applying a layer of wax on your car will keep it looking as good as new. It protects the car from UV rays which is often the cause of fading paint and giving your car that ‘used’ look. There are different types of wax to use, so there are many options for each type of budget!

Washing your car isn’t as simple as soaping and rinsing. In order to keep your car looking like new, there are alternative steps that need to be performed. When washing your car, keep these steps in mind and treat your car the way it deserves to be treated!
