Tired of getting speeding tickets? Maybe the solution is to increase the speed limit on our highways (or until then, slow down!)! There’s a lot of debate about whether or not it’s a good idea to start thinking about increasing the speed limit on our highways. There are a lot of reasons for or against increasing the speed limit on highways. Today, we here at GM Outlet Parts are going to be weighing the pros and cons of increasing the speed limit on highways!
Cars Can Go Faster Than Ever
One of the main reasons people argue that a speed limit increase is warranted is due to the fact that cars are built to go faster than ever. By this we don’t mean that the top speed has increased, but rather cars can better handle high speeds. Back in the day, certain cars would get much harder to control once they reached higher speeds. With an increased control difficulty, a greater danger comes to the driver and those around them.
Now, cars are built better than ever. Cars are much easier to control even at higher speeds. This means that a speed increase would not mean a sacrifice in vehicular control.
Human Error
Of course, human error has to be taken into consideration. By increasing the speed, there may be an increase in accidents. This would likely be due to human error. With higher speeds means less time for someone to react. The human brain can only react so fast – in case of a sudden stop there not be enough time to react.
Everyone’s Already Driving Faster
The fact is, if you’ve driven on any highway in America, you’ve noticed that most people are driving over the speed limit anyways. In fact, it’s the varying speeds that cause the most traffic. When half the drivers are driving faster than the others, it can often cause massive accidents. The solution would be to raise the speed limits to what people think is fair. It will see more people following the rules and have safer roads for everyone.
People May Go Over The New Speed Limit
Another negative aspect is the fact that people may go over the new speed limit that is put in place. Unfortunately, the phrase goes, “Rules were made to be broken.” People may very well adopt this attitude. If we raise the speed limit from 60 to 70, people who speed may very well go from 70 to 80. In that case, does increasing the speed limit fix anything at all?
Increasing the speed limit is something that is hotly debated. There are many arguments that are for or against increasing it. GM Outlet Parts is neutral on the subject, but want to give insights on both sides of the argument. In any case, stay safe out there!
