General Motors sold 2,449,595 vehicles around the world during the third quarter of 2014, making it the company’s best third quarter since 1980. This is only part of a very good year for GM, as the company has sold over seven million vehicles during the first nine months of the year.
The majority of GM’s third quarter sales were in the United States and China, the company’s two largest markets. Third quarter sales in the United States were up eight percent from last year, while sales in China were up an impressive 14 percent. GM is also on track to surpass sales of three million vehicles in China for the second consecutive year, and it may even top last year’s record of 3.12 vehicles sold in that country. Sales are also at record levels in South Korea.
Highlights from 2013
One of the biggest reasons for GM’s success in the United States is due to the popularity of the new Chevrolet Silverado and the GMC Sierra. Both vehicles helped to increase GM’s share of the U.S. market for large pickup trucks to nearly 38 percent in the third quarter of 2014. Meanwhile, sales of small SUVs such as the Buick Encore, The Chevrolet Trax and the Captiva were up by 90 percent in China, and Cadillac’s global sales were up four percent during the third quarter.
A Great Time to Invest in GM Parts
With GM going strong and having the best third quarter sales in over three decades this year, now is the perfect time to invest in GM parts. GM trucks and SUVs are clearly some of the most popular vehicles of their kind throughout the world, and the company could be looking at future success when the Chevrolet Trax is released in the United States in 2015.
