Gas Saving Tips

January 31, 2018 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

Gas is expensive – there is no doubt about that. In order to be a driver, it also means forfeiting a good chunk of cash every week just to keep your vehicle running. This can be especially difficult when you’ve got a larger vehicle that consumes more gas.

However, there are simple gas saving tips you can do to ensure you’re getting the most bang for your buck when you fill up. By following these simple gas saving tips, you may find yourself stopping at the gas station less and less. Keep your hard-earned money in your wallet!

Tire Pressure

Having low tire pressure is the silent money-stealer when it comes to affecting your gas mileage. When your tire pressure is low, it means that your car has to work harder to get itself up to speed. When your vehicle has to work harder, your gas mileage takes a hit.

Fill your tires with air until it reaches the correct pressure. Remember – changes in weather can affect your tire pressure so it’s a good idea to check it regularly. After, you’ll notice your car rides are much smoother and better on gas mileage!

Do You Need That A/C?

One common issue that we all partake in is running our a/c or heater when it’s not necessarily needed. For example, when the temperature is in the 70’s, is the a/c really going to make a difference? It may be better just to simply crack the windows!

However, while the perception is a/c is always bad for gas mileage, this isn’t necessarily true. If you’re doing highway driving, it’s actually more beneficial to crank the a/c rather than opening the windows. This is because keeping the windows up actually decreases wind resistance!

Fix That Lead Foot

Many people are a bit heavy footed on the gas pedal. It seems to be hardwired into many of our brains – as soon as the traffic light turns green, accelerate to speed as quickly as possible. However, it’s important to note that when you hear your engine working harder, it means it’s burning more fuel! So lighten up the foot!

Learn Shortcuts

At the end of the day, you will use less fuel if you find shorter routes. With technology allowing us to check out maps with a push of a button, you can quickly check to see if your route to work is indeed the quickest. Even if another route is only a few minutes quicker, that fuel savings will add up!

We all want to save more money. By using these gas saving tips, you will find your wallet gets heavier by the day. If you want to improve your fuel efficiency with new car parts, shop online at GM Outlet Parts today!
