Do You Need An SUV?

January 10, 2018 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

SUVs are great vehicles. They’re big, easy to drive an offer a wide variety of benefits. At some point, every driver in America has thought about purchasing an SUV as their main mode of transportation. It’s only natural – it’s the great American Vehicle.

However, there is one question every driver needs to ask themselves: is an SUV really necessary? While there are many benefits to driving an SUV, unless these benefits directly relate to you an SUV may actually offer more negatives. Today we will be discussing whether or not an SUV fits into your daily life.

Do You Need The Size?

One huge benefit of an SUV is the amount of space they offer. When you own an SUV, you can almost literally fit your entire life in your vehicle. Whether you have a large family, lots of stuff that needs transportation or even are a camper who wants to use their vehicles as a shelter, an SUV’s size is its main benefit.

However, if you don’t need all that size, it may actually be a burden. For example, having a large vehicle can be difficult to park – especially if you live in a large urban area. Need to parallel park? You better hope there’s enough space. Also, with all that size means extra gas money needs to be spent. An SUV needs to use more power to move, ultimately using more gas than your average sedan.

Where Do You Live?

Another question to ask yourself before deciding if you need an SUV is where do you live? Look around your location – will an SUV really benefit you? For example, if you live in the country, an SUV’s benefits would definitely be of use to you. SUV’s are great to drive on any road and will give you the added sense of safety.

However, if you live in a major city, you may have a harder time navigating the roads. This is especially true if you live in a city with lots of skinny streets and twists n’ turns. A bulky SUV may not be your first choice for navigating a city such as Boston.

What Are You Hauling?

Lastly, what are you hauling? What we mean by this is will you be using features such as towing very often? If you own a boat or trailer, SUVs are great as it can carry a lot of weight behind it. If you’re a regular camper or fisher, then you may need an SUV.

However, if your usual luggage consists of your purse or laptop bag, then an SUV is really just wasted space. A sedan may better suit your needs. SUVs are great for people who are carrying heavy loads often and can be used for both work and pleasure.

Every driver has thought about purchasing an SUV at some point in their lives. How could they not – these attractive vehicles have a wide variety of benefits to offer. However, consider the questions asked in this blog before deciding whether or not you need an SUV.
