November 17, 2017 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

In the words of our favorite TV show – “Winter is coming.” What does this mean for you? It means you have to start preparing your vehicle for winter weather! For those of us who live in the snowy states, we know that winter can come without warning. While you’re sitting out on your patio enjoying a burger one day, the next day you may find it covered in snow.

Preparing your car for winter is easy, and with these tips, you will be driving like a pro through the slush! Remember – it’s better to get these preparations out of the way before it’s too late. If you need any parts – GM Outlet Parts can help!

Winter Tires

We can’t stress this point enough – if you live in an hour that regularly gets snow and ice throughout the winter, you need winter tires. Your regular tires do a great service in the spring and summer time, but unfortunately, in the winter it just won’t get a grip.

Winter tires are specially made to help your vehicle avoid slipping in the snow/ice. It’s specially made tread keeps a hold, and can spare you from fender benders! Don’t skimp out on tires this season – an accident will cost you a lot more!

Keep a Safety Kit

This is another important tip that not many people think of but can be life-saving in the winter months. Keeping a safety kit in the trunk may not come in use at all during the winter – but you’ll be really thankful if a time ever came when you did need it.

Safety kits should include items such as blankets, water, flashlight, etc. This is especially important if you plan on going on any long road trips this summer. You don’t want to find yourself stranded without any safety gear until help arrives.

Check Your Heater

There is a multitude of reasons why your heater may not be working the way its should, but the last thing you want to do is wait until the freezing weather to find out that it’s shot. While the weather is still mild, turn on your heater. If everything’s in working order, congratulations! If not, however, you’ll want to take it in. Not only is driving without heat in the winter uncomfortable – it can cause visibility issues with you windshield!

Preparing your vehicle for winter is simple but important. Remember, the most important preparation is to make sure that your vehicle’s fluids are maintained and that everything is working! If something’s wrong and you need a part replaced – GM Outlet Parts has your back!
