The new 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is here! From seeing the car at first glance to experiencing it from the driver’s seat, there are many reasons why you’ll love the new Camaro.
According to Chevy, the new Camaro offers higher levels of performance, technology and refinement. As expected, the new sixth-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro is completely new from the ground up. Although it may look similar to the outgoing model, only two parts are the same; the rear bowtie emblem and the SS badge.
The new Camaro is based on GM’s Alpha platform, which has been used on the Cadillac ATS and CTS models, rather than the previously used Zeta platform. Due to this, the underbody pieces are completely different. The new Camaro is also two inches shorter than before and is about 200 lbs. lighter due to greater use of aluminum components.
There is a new 4-cylinder 2.0-liter turbo engine that makes 275 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. The 3.6 liter V6 makes 335 horsepower and 285 lb-ft of torque, and lastly, the Camaro SS is powered by a 6.2 liter V8, making 455 horsepower and 455 lb-ft of torque. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic with paddle shifters. Chevy says that the 4-cylinder Camaro will go from 0 to 60 mph in under six seconds.
The Drive Mode Selector modifies a total of eight vehicle attributes to match four drive modes: Snow/Ice, Tour, Sport and if you have a Camaro SS, Track. Track capable allows the entire tank of fuel to run at maximum speed without cooking its engine, transmission, differential, or brakes.
Just to name a few, some of the new features include a larger center touch screen, a new drive mode selector and configurable LED interior lighting, wider track, customizable instrument cluster, horizontal transmission (automatic transmission), three radiators (V-8 engine), a laser-welded roof, and lastly, the availability of Magnetic Ride Control suspension.
The new sixth-generation 2016 Chevrolet Camaro will be offered in LT and SS models. Prices will be announced closer to launch date.
