Diagnose Suspension Problems

February 9, 2018 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

Does your ride feel a little bit bumpier than it should? Uh-oh – you may be having suspension issues. Your suspension is one of the most important aspects of a smooth ride. Not only is it used for comfort, but it can also protect your vehicle! Your suspension is something that you do not want to go out on you.

How do you inspect suspension problems to determine an issue? Lucky for you, GM Outlet Parts is here to teach you some simple way to detect suspension problems. Pay attention to these steps if you believe that your suspension is giving up!

How Does Your Ride Feel?

First thing’s first – how does your vehicle feel when driving? The first sign of suspension problems is feeling every little bump and crevice on the road. The point of suspension is to absorb the bumps in the road – failure to do so can mean trouble.

The reality is suspension parts can wear out over time. Often times, suspension issues will not just pop up overnight – they are something that happens gradually. That’s why it’s important to pay close attention to your vehicle. If you start feeling even a minor difference in the way it drives, pay close attention to see if it gets worse over time.

Use Your Ears

It’s important that you also listen carefully if you suspect suspension problems. The sound your vehicle makes can be another dead giveaway that you are experiencing suspension problems. It’s important to note whether the sounds just recently popped up, or if they became more prominent over time.

Listen whenever you make a movement in your car. Making a right turn at the stop light? Turn the stereo down and listen carefully. If you’re hearing sounds such as squeaks or grinds, there may be something wrong with your suspension!

Give It A Look

Lastly, if you’ve noticed something strange while performing any of these tests, it may be time to get out of your car and take a good hard look for signs of suspension problems. For example, stand directly in front of your car. Is it level? If not, there’s an issue!

If you have experience fixing vehicles, then you may want to get under the car and have a look to check and see if everything is in order. However, if you don’t know what you’re looking for then this is not recommended. The last thing you want to do is screw up the suspension any more – bring your vehicle to a mechanic!

Suspension issues can happen at any time. The more wear and tear you put on a vehicle, the more worn down your suspension will become. Fixing your suspension? You can find the parts you need at GM Outlet Parts!
