Once again Summer is coming to an end. We now have to say goodbye to sunshine weather and outdoor pool days. Fall is quickly approaching, where we’ll say hello to leaves on the ground and sweater weather. This is also the time you should be giving your car a check up. Summer is a busy season for driving. Whether it was for a road trip or just a day of fun your car might have gone through a lot in the summer heat. With temperatures about to drop it’s important to prepare for some routine maintenance, especially if you’re driving back to school every day this upcoming fall.
Basic Maintenance Procedures
You should begin with checking all fluids in your car. These include engine oil, power steering, brake, transmission, windshield washer and antifreeze. Doing this will help your car feel refreshed for the new season. Next, you should check both your cars hoses and belts. Make sure neither have any cracks, brittle, loose or any signs of wear or stress. You should also next check how your battery is doing, and if it’s necessary to replace it. Be sure to check all connects to assure everything is clean and corrosion-free.
Checking your car’s brake system should be next. Keep an eye on your brake linings, rotors, and drums, and be sure everything is intact. Next, inspect your car’s exhaust system. You need to keep and eye out for leaks, damage and any broken supports. Exhaust leaks can be extremely dangerous, so it’s important to keep an eye out for any irregularities. You will also want to take a look at your HVAC system, which consists of heating, ventilating and air conditioning. Doing so is also critical for your car, as it will help with temperature change.
Inspecting your steering and suspension system should be done as well. Checking your shock absorbers, struts and chassis parts. Next, you should do a check up on your tires. Be sure to inspect the tire pressure and tread. Lastly, you should do a check up on wipers and lighting. This will keep you safe assuring you will have clear vision through your windshield, as well as making sure both interior and exterior lighting is all working in your vehicle.
Know Your Car
If you aren’t already it would be wise to get familiarized with your car. Make sure you know where all of your safety equipment is. Also be sure everything you need is there in your car including jumper cables, a pair of gloves, flashlight, washer fluid and others. You should also pay attention to your dashboard make sure everything is in order. If any lights are on be sure to take your car to a mechanic to get it checked. The worst thing you can do is wait until the problem gets worse.
Much of preparing your car for Fall are simple procedures you should do for your car annually. It’s just important that you do them to be sure your car is ready to enter any new season.
