July 10, 2017 by Jim Hensley Leave a Comment

Driving can be both a great freedom and a huge restriction. While you have the freedom of being able to go anywhere you want on a whim, these expectations can be dampened due to the costs associated with driving. The biggest cost in driving in often fuel expenses. Having to fuel up once or twice a week can become very costly and hinder your finances.

If you’re like the average American driver, you are constantly looking for new ways to increase your fuel efficiency. Luckily for you, it’s not very difficult! In today’s blog, we will be going over a few simple tips to boost your fuel efficiency and ensure that you are getting the most mileage out of your vehicle!

Tire Pressure

One of the biggest unseen culprits of poor fuel consumption is due to your tire pressure. If you have tires that are uninflated, naturally your car has to work harder to move it. This means that your vehicle will be using more fuel!

It’s good practice to check your tire pressure at least once a month. If your tires are underinflated – spend the quarter on air to fill them up! You will see your fuel efficiency increase substantially!

Cruise Control

When you’re driving on the highway, cruise control can be your best friend. Not enough people are using it – even if it can save them money on fuel! Cruise control allows your vehicle to drive at a constant speed. If traffic is flowing on the highway – this is definitely the method you should use.  It can save up to 6% of fuel consumption on the highway!

Give Your Car A Nice Cleaning

We have all let our cars become disasters at some point in our lives. If you go on a camping trip, sometimes it’s just easier to leave all the gear in the trunk for a few months. However, not only is this cluttering your vehicle – it’s lowering its fuel efficiency!

The more weight that the car bears, the more fuel it needs to move. A simple solution to this – clean your car! A great tip is to set aside one day a week to give your car a good cleansing. This will ensure that clutter will not have time to build up. Not only will it help with fuel consumption – it gives your car a nice feng shui!

Bring Your Car In For A Checkup

We treat our cars like a member of the family – so bring it in for checkups! Unless you yourself are a licensed mechanic, you won’t be able to know everything that is going on with your vehicle. Bringing it in for regular checkups can not only make sure your vehicle is in prime position – it can also stop problems from happening before they start! Don’t forget – if you need to replace a part, visit GM Outlet Parts!
